If there's one pitch you keep swinging at and keep missing, stop swinging at it.
-Yogi Berra
my first thought when I read this quote was that
IF, after enormous amount of effort being put into doing a certain thing, and we still achieve nothing, we should give up.
wells, I guess its common sense.
I mean we would not do something that doesn't gives us a sense of satisfaction.
if you are bad playing basketball, would you be encouraged to continue playing basketball?
naturally, if you are good something, it gives you a sense of satisfaction which in turn pushes you to a greater height.
star shifu once told me that
"If someone is not very good at something yet he/she still persevere and continue practising. It says a lot about the character"
on the other hand, it appears true as well
why would you want to waste time on something you're not good at?
if you're not good at it, it simply means you're not good at it right?
then how do you judge whether its worth the time or not?
my second thought was that
MAYBE, Yogi Berra was implying that we should change the method of doing things when we reach a plateau
if swinging at this direction with this this much of strength doesn't hit, then maybe you should change the direction and different amount strength.
"Its insanity to expect different result doing things the same way"
example:
You want to save more money. But everyday morning you woke up late and you have to spend like S$20 to cab to work.
you live your life this way, and you expect that the money in your bank willl grow faster
does it ever occur to you that if you sleep slightly earlier and woke up slightly earlier, you might just save the S$20 everyday.
S$20 x 20working days = S$400 !!
:))
you want things to change
change the way you do things
just random thoughts about this quote I found when I was reading some book
ps: its time to update my blog anyway
PSS: lol !! eh zech, not talking about you here ;)
